The Howatt Group is a boutique professional accounting firm with a team of 6 people. This includes 4 managers (managers are more so senior managers in a lot of firms, they just keep the nomenclature the same for consistency for all clients), two principals and an admin. Their structure is “flat” meaning that each manager is responsible for their client listing and are the main point of contact for those clients as well as prepare the engagements associated with them. This structure allows for extensive client – manager contact and the ability to form useful relationship which fit very well in our boutique services. They specialize in small / medium size businesses in a variety of industries. Their work is mostly focused surrounding incorporated clients and the compliance, advice and other services they require. Their main services include compilation engagements and review engagements. They also do a few small audits however most of our assurance work is performed via review engagements. Their work and business model is performed in office, where they can all collaborate as a group and remote work is not nearly as efficient and it ends up providing lackluster client service.
On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Chartered Professional Accountant to join their team during an exciting time of growth.
Reporting to the Partners you will be responsible for preparing, analyzing and reviewing financial statements via review engagements as well as preparation for informational purposes only, corporate and personal tax returns, reports and filings. This is a client facing role so you will also have the opportunity to work directly with clients and provide recommendations and solutions on business and financial issues. While the firm has a very healthy portfolio of clients you will also be responsible for business development.
Our ideal candidate is a CPA or someone nearing completion of the CPA program with at least several years’ experience in public accounting. Experience working with small to medium size companies would be a significant asset. Previous experience with Caseware or similar systems would be preferred.
