Role Description

Reporting to the Manager of Capital Projects, the Capital Projects Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day tasks and assignments of on-site crews involved in municipal capital projects. This includes coordinating the execution of various projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with municipal goals and standards. The successful candidate will always champion safety, leading by example and ensuring adherence to environmental, accessibility, and building code standards. Lastly, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring project efficiency and quality, supporting the development and implementation of initiatives that enhance community infrastructure, and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervise and coordinate all on-site activities completed by internal project crews and subcontractors;
  • Monitor project timelines, ensuring all milestones are met according to schedule;
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project demands, ensuring that materials, equipment, and personnel are available as required;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment;
  • Ensure all projects comply with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations;
  • Ensure safety is maintained as a top priority at all times by managing and distributing PPE, completing inspections regularly, and conducting training on best on-site practices;
  • Oversee the quality of work performed, ensuring that all projects meet the required standards;
  • Communicate regularly with the Manager of Capital Projects and other stakeholders regarding project progress, preparing detailed reports and documentation as needed.

Your Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you are a natural leader, team player, and problem solver with a positive attitude. You have demonstrated your ability to successfully lead construction crews and projects through to completion, on time, and on budget. Most importantly, you are a safety-oriented construction professional who can approach problems that may arise over the course of a project calmly and efficiently.
Your qualifications will include:

  • 5 years’ experience working in the construction industry, with 2 years’ experience as a Construction Supervisor, responsible for leading and directing multi-discipline employees or contractors;
  • Post-secondary education in construction, or a related field, would be considered a strong asset;
  • PMP certification would be considered an asset;
  • Class 5 NS Drivers License with Condition 15 endorsement;
  • Previous work experience in a municipal environment would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to observe, diagnose, and make repairs or modifications;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, coupled with environmental awareness;
  • Strong understanding of construction practices, project management principles, and municipal infrastructure standards;
  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations governing construction, safety, and environmental standards;
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with stakeholders, contractors, and team members;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software, and AutoCAD would be considered a strong asset.
