We are pleased to partner with the Roman Catholic, Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth to bring an experienced CPA to their organization as Financial Administrator. The Financial Administrator will report directly to the Archbishop of Halifax -Yarmouth and is a key member of the Archdiocesan management team and contributes to the formulation of financial strategy The Financial Administrator will assist in managing the business and financial affairs of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth, including the Catholic Cemeteries, and oversees the management of Archdiocesan goods, properties, and insurance. The financial management is carried out in accordance with policies approved by the Archdiocesan Finance Council, the Archbishop of Halifax-Yarmouth, and Canon Law. With clear and consistent communication, the Financial Administrator has significant contact with parishes, clergy, insurance and financial members of the community, and other dioceses across Canada.


Responsibilities in this role will also include:

 

  • Contribute to the formulation of strategy and coordinate and prepare the annual budget.
  • Analyze and communicate financial trends.
  • Plan the design and implementation of accounting practices and procedures for the diocese.
  • Manage diocesan finances in accordance with Canon Law and the policies of the diocese.
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic reports.
  • Ensure the preparation of monthly financial statements with comparison and analysis of actual to budget variances.
  • Oversee the preparation of cost centre reports for leaders.
  • Remit quarterly HST rebate request, Halifax and Yarmouth.
  • Oversee the management of diocesan goods, properties and insurance.
  • Management and supervisory responsibility for the Catholic Cemeteries of Halifax operations.
  • Serve as a member of the Finance Council, Pension Committee, Group Benefit.
  • Committee, Investment Committee and Building Committee.
  • Serve on the Archbishop’s Executive Council.
  • Assist parishes in financial planning as required.
  • Provide financial advice to parishes as requested.
  • Oversee collection of Parish monthly and annual financial statements and reports.


The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • CPA designation coupled with degree in business or accounting.
  • Minimum 10 years directly related experience, including experience in fund accounting, budget management and charities.
  • Experience in a non-profit or religious organization would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years experience supervising staff in a diverse organization.
  • Effective communication skills are essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of technology especially with the use of MS Office suite.
