Our client, Armbrae Academy, is an independent, university preparatory, co-educational, non-denominational Pre to Grade 12 day school. Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia and CAIS accredited, Armbrae challenges their students to "be kind, work hard". We are pleased to be partnered with Armbrae seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to manage their financial records. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy. This position is essential for ensuring the school's financial operations run smoothly and efficiently.


Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledge, accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, ensuring expenses are within approved limits. Also assist in payroll processing.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with all local and federal regulations.
  • Handle communications with vendors, process invoices, and ensure timely payments.
  • Handle communications with customers, process receipts, and ensure timely collections.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for audits and work closely with auditors to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all financial records are organized, up-to-date, and accessible for audits or reviews.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to other departments as needed.


The ideal candidate will possess:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in a school or non-profit environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
