At the Teachers' Pension Plan Corporation (TPPC), you will have the chance to contribute to the management and sustainability of the second largest public sector pension plan in the province. The TPPC administers the Teachers’ Pension Plan in Newfoundland and Labrador, with over 18,000 members and assets exceeding $4.8 billion. The corporation is committed to delivering outstanding service while upholding values of integrity, service, performance, accountability, partnership, and inclusion. Following pension reform, the TPPC operates under a Joint Sponsorship Agreement, working closely with the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association (NLTA) and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to ensure the plan’s sustainability and excellence.


On their behalf, we are searching for a Manager of Finance and Administration to join their team! This role offers a diverse mix of responsibilities, combining core financial management with elements of payroll processing, benefits administration, and general administrative support. Reporting to the CFO, you will play a key role in overseeing the accounting team and ensuring that financial operations are executed with precision and efficiency. The position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the overall effectiveness of a small, agile team dedicated to upholding the highest standards of financial integrity and operational excellence.


What You Will Do:

  • Manage the accounting team and oversee day-to-day activities within the department.
  • Develop and provide monthly and quarterly financial statements, including notes and related financial information.
  • Administer payroll and manage group benefit, employee defined benefit pension, and RRSP programs, ensuring accuracy and timely payments.
  • Maintain and enhance internal processes and controls to ensure efficient and best practice business operations.
  • Oversee the year-end external audit process and assist the CFO with annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filings of HST returns and complete annual reconciliations.

Who You Are:

  • You possess a post-secondary education in Business, Finance, or a related field, along with a CPA designation or equivalent.
  • With at least five years of experience in relevant accounting positions, you have a strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and the preparation of financial statements.
  • You have experience in payroll processing and group benefit administration, or interest in this responsibility, combined with a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Your detail orientation, excellent time management, and organizational skills complement your strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage preferred) and the Microsoft Suite of products is essential.
