Based in Dartmouth, Precision BioLogic is a private medical device company that develops, manufactures, and markets a range of specialty diagnostic products used to assess blood coagulation disorders in clinical laboratories around the world. The company has developed a strong reputation in its niche and counts most of the major hospitals and reference laboratories in North America among its direct customers. On November 1, 2018, Precision BioLogic completed the acquisition of Affinity Biologicals Inc., a primary manufacturer of regents and kits used in hemostasis and thrombosis research and diagnostics located in Ancaster, Ontario. Now, we are partnering with them as we look to bring an Senior Accounting Specialist to their growing company.


As a Senior Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible to support the Finance & Accounting team to ensure that finances are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner. In addition, this position with oversees all payroll-related tasks and year-end reporting ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards. This role is critical in supporting the strategic ambition to strengthen the company’s financial position.


Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Participates in the preparation of financial statements and management information reports (for review by the Controller).
  • Assists in the evaluation of financial performance, driving cost efficiencies, compliance with company law and taxation legislation.
  • Processes daily accounting transactions.
  • Provides cross-functional support with budget inquiries and postings.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets or forecasts.
  • Collecting timesheet data and payroll information.
  • Entering data into payroll and administrative databases and software programs for both US and Canadian payroll.
  • Calculating wages, benefits, tax deductions, commissions, etc.
  • Maintaining accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions.
  • Performing account balance and payroll reconciliations.
  • Monthly, Quarterly, Annual reports for WCB (Workers Compensation Board of NS), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Ontario Employer Health Tax (EHT).
  • Other related accounting and finance and payroll (Canada and USA) duties as required.


The ideal candidate will possess:

 

  • Post secondary degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent experience
  • CPA designation is an asset but not required
  • Payroll designation (PCP or CPM) or equivalent work experience
  • Strong organizational, data entry, and communication skills
  • Knowledge in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office
