Meridia Recruitment is excited to partner with techNL as we seek a highly motivated and strategic thinker to join their team as the Tech Conferences Manager! In this role, you will be responsible for leading the planning and execution of key initiatives, including a reimagined Innovation Week conference, a new international conference, and a program to support leaders in rural NL. You will play a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of a new program, which are centered on fostering learning within the NL tech sector regarding the latest local and global tech trends, attracting international and Canadian tech sector stakeholders (including investors, companies, experts, and experienced workers) to Newfoundland and Labrador, and increasing business activity and growth within the province’s tech sector.


What You Will Do:
• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for Innovation Week and the international conference, ensuring alignment with broader objectives of attracting tech companies to Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Event Planning and Management: Oversee all aspects of conference organization, from conceptualization to execution, ensuring high-quality content, engaging formats, seamless logistics, and communication with the techNL team.
• Business Development: Proactively engage with potential tech companies to explore their interest in establishing a presence in the province. This includes conducting outreach, facilitating introductory calls, and fostering connections with local stakeholders.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key partners, including techNL, GovNL, local tech companies, ecosystem partners, subject matter experts, leading-edge evaluation practices, sponsors, and partners, to ensure collaborative efforts in promoting the tech sector.
• Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and manage the conference team, including the Conference Logistics Coordinator, to ensure effective collaboration and achievement of objectives.
• Budgets and Sponsorship: Manage the project budget and cultivate sponsorship relationships to ensure successful financial planning and partnership growth of our events.
• Performance Measurement: Evaluate the success of conferences and business attraction strategies, utilizing data-driven insights to adapt plans and optimize outcomes.

 

Who You Are:
• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Business/Tech Savvy: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in event management, business development, or related roles, with a focus on the technology sector.
• Event Planning Master: Proven track record of successfully planning and executing large-scale conferences or events.
• Relationship Builder: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Team Motivator: Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
• Quick-Thinker: Problem-solving skills including quick thinking and creativity in resolving issues that arise during event planning and execution.
• Regional Expert: Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador’s tech ecosystem and economic development landscape is an asset.
• EDI Ally: Experience in and commitment to increasing equity, diversity and inclusion in groups such as Indigenous people, women and 2SLGBTQIA+, visible minorities and racialized people and/or people living in rural areas is an asset.
