Role Description:
Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring all work performed on active job sites is of the highest quality without sacrificing safety, productivity, or schedule. Supporting all operations/field teams, you will draw upon your knowledge of safety best practices and regional legislation to effectively troubleshoot safety concerns, always doing the right thing, and finding the correct solution that is most appropriate for the situation at hand.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and conduct new employee safety orientations, arranging additional training as required;
  • Participate in and lead site-specific Joint Health & Safety meetings as required;
  • Assist in the development and administration of hazard assessments, fall protection plans, rescue plans, and job safety analyses;
  • Participate in the design and distribution of customer-specific safety information;
  • Perform field inspections and audits to identify areas of non-compliance, recommending corrective actions to management;
  • Coach, mentor, and train employees and/or supervisors as required;
  • Assist with incident investigations and timely reporting of al incidents, property damage, near misses, or significant hazards;
  • Participate in safety meetings with work/field crews as needed, promoting open discussion of safety concerns and best practices;
  • Compile statistical data and reports as required;
  • Organize emergency preparedness policies and procedures (emergency prevention, preparedness, and response);
  • Assist in managing employee’s return to work program, ensuring a safe and appropriate transition plan is followed.

Your Qualifications:
As the ideal candidate, you are a collaborative team player who understands that working with people through safety challenges is the best approach for long-term success. As a natural communicator, mentor, and educator, you are easily able to promote a safety-first culture and have a proven track record of effective troubleshooting and problem-solving.

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a Safety-related position, preferably in a comparable industry (i.e., manufacturing, construction);
  • Professional Safety designation (i.e., CSS, CSO, NCSO, CRSP) would be considered an asset;
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, coupled with a proven ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment;
  • Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently;
  • Strong computer skills, notably with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Experience using Safety platforms/software’s would be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety regulations in Atlantic Canadian provinces;
  • Experience conducting formal workplace/incident investigations;
  • Active First Aid/CPR certification(s);
  • Additional training/certifications in relevant areas (i.e., Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, etc.) would be considered an asset.
