Meridia Recruitment is pleased to partner with the City of Calgary in the recruitment of a Leader, Wastewater Treatment Engineering, to support their efforts to improve critical linear infrastructure within the City.
The Leader, Wastewater Network will provide strategic leadership to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of the City’s sanitary wastewater linear capital infrastructure. This includes the design, planning, project/portfolio management, and oversight of major gravity and pressurized pipe networks, lift stations, and supporting infrastructure that carry sewage and wastewater to treatment facilities. As a member of the Linear Infrastructure Delivery (LID) team, you will foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration amongst staff and internal/external business partners. You will provide technical authority and strategic decision-making to ensure critical wastewater systems function safely, reliably, and sustainably to support a growing population and protect public health and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & People Management: Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff; oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management; foster a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration.
- Capital Project Delivery: Provide engineering expertise and technical oversight for linear wastewater projects, including underground pipes, sanitary trunk sewers, tunnels, mains, lift stations, and related infrastructure; guide projects from concept through design, approvals, tendering, contract administration, construction, inspection, and commissioning.
- Strategic Direction & Planning: Develop long-term plans, allocate resources, and support multi-year capital budgeting and operating budgets; contribute to business process development in support of wastewater capital project delivery.
- Governance, Standards & Continuous Improvement: Ensure projects meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards; collaborate with internal and external partners to integrate wastewater infrastructure with stormwater, water, and transportation networks.
- Financial Oversight & Communications: Contribute to budget planning and reporting; communicate proactively with internal and external stakeholders, including municipal leadership.
Qualifications/Skills
- A degree in Engineering with 8 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and current licensure with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) (practicing status required by the first day of work). Degree in Civil or Environmental Systems Engineering preferred.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with wastewater pipelines, systems, or municipal linear infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience leading capital infrastructure programs or major projects, with knowledge of hydraulics, pipeline systems, and asset management principles.
- Experience in leadership and supervision of staff is an asset.
- PMP designation and project tracking software experience are assets.
- Highly developed strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills; strong project management and decision-making abilities in complex, high-profile environments.
- Strong communication, relationship management, business, and political acumen; demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
What is Offered to Staff
- Rate of Pay: $148,900-$186,100
- Hours of Work: This is a non-union position that works Monday-Friday 35 hours per week.
