The Opportunity

With a mission to advance ocean innovation through sustainable practices and cutting‑edge technology, the organization is experiencing rapid expansion and is seeking a strategic Director of Human Resources to join its senior leadership team.

The Director of Human Resources will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing all HR systems, policies, and people strategies across Sea Centric. Key areas of responsibility include organizational design, recruitment, onboarding, total rewards, employee relations, compliance, risk management, HR policy development, and the implementation of a new HRIS.

This leadership role requires a forward‑thinking, energetic, and highly autonomous HR professional capable of building a scalable people function from the ground up. The Director will support both marine industrial and vessel‑based operations while balancing long‑term strategic workforce planning with hands-on HR execution. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director will serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team on HR and organizational policy matters.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the development, modernization, and governance of HR policies, employee handbooks, and organizational procedures.
  • Ensure HR systems and practices comply with employment legislation, Transport Canada standards, and internal governance frameworks.
  • Build and optimize HR infrastructure including HRIS implementation and scalable people processes.
  • Provide strategic advice on organizational structure, workforce planning, and people related risk management.
  • Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, investigations, and workplace culture initiatives.
  • Coach and support managers in performance management, review, development planning, and corrective actions. 
  • Lead full cycle recruitment for marine, technical, operational, and corporate roles. 
  • Develop talent pipelines through partnerships with educational institutions and marine training programs. 
  • Oversee onboarding, benefits, contracts, documentation, compliance records, and personnel data integrity. 
  • Collaborate closely with marine and port operations to ensure HR solutions align with operational demands. 
  • Prepare executive-level HR reports and provide policy recommendations to the CEO and leadership team. 
  • Champion a positive, engaged, and safety focused culture across office, port, and vessel environments.
Who You Are
  • Holds post secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • HR designation such as CPHR, CHRP, or SHRM CP is considered an asset.
  • Brings 7–10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience in marine, industrial, maritime, or complex operational settings.
  • Demonstrates experience in HR policy development, compliance, employee relations, recruitment, HR operations, and HRIS implementation. 
  • Has strong knowledge of employment legislation and regulatory requirements. 
  • Exhibits exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Able to build trust at all levels of the organization. 
  • Brings a visionary mindset with the ability to design systems, processes, and strategies from the ground up.
  • Operates with strong judgment, maturity, and significant decision making autonomy. 
  • Organized, detail oriented, and comfortable leading HR functions in a fast paced, high growth environment.
