Role Description
As Global Payroll Manager, you will lead the payroll function for a large, multi jurisdictional workforce with seasonal peaks over 5000 employees. You will oversee payroll operations, ensure compliance with regulatory and tax requirements, and support process and system improvements. Working closely with HR, Accounting, and Operations, you will manage and support a team of payroll professionals and ensure accurate, timely payroll delivery aligned with organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and model a safety focused, respectful workplace culture anchored in the organization’s mission and values.
- Lead the payroll team by setting goals, providing mentorship, and supporting development.
- Ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing across all jurisdictions.
- Process payroll as needed and audit payroll submissions for accuracy.
- Oversee payroll tax audits, prepare amendments, and manage state and federal reporting.
- Respond to all inquiries related to payroll, taxes, garnishments, and journal entries.
- Collaborate with vendors to maintain payroll systems and resolve issues.
- Work with HRIS specialist to test and implement pay codes, department structures, and system enhancements.
- Partner with HR, Accounting, and Operations to maintain timely and accurate data flow.
- Provide required information to Workers Compensation and payroll auditors.
- Produce ad hoc payroll reports as required.
- Review and refine payroll processes, recommending improvements where needed.
- Support organizational efficiency by proposing new practices and streamlined approaches.
- Contribute to cross functional initiatives and complete additional assignments as required.
Your Qualifications
- BS or BA in Business Administration, Accounting, HR, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 or more years of progressive payroll experience for a medium-sized multi-state organization, including staff supervision.
- Strong understanding of payroll best practices and multi state payroll compliance.
- Experience with payroll systems, with Workday considered an asset.
- Skilled in leadership, performance coaching, and culture building.
- Strong judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to learn and apply information quickly.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work independently, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Commitment to learning and adapting as the organization evolves.
Preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional designation or equivalent considered an asset.
Work Environment and Requirements
- Primarily office-based with extended periods seated at a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and operate standard office equipment.
- Full time role with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Minimal travel required; valid passport needed.
- Ability to pass pre employment background screenings.
