Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with Municipal Group of Companies to recruit a Renewables Project Manager to join their newly established and growing Renewables division.

Founded through the acquisitions of Municipal Spraying and Contracting (1974) and Dexter Construction (1976), Municipal Group of Companies quickly became a leading heavy civil contractor in Atlantic Canada, known for excellence in roadbuilding, bridgework, site development, and related services. Over time, our client has strategically expanded into environmental services and logistics while maintaining their commitment to Vision, Integrity, and Stability. Now, through the creation of the Mi’Kma’Ki-Municipal division, our client has expanded further into the renewable energy industry, with several exciting wind-turbine projects currently underway.

Role Description:
Reporting to the Director of Renewables, the Renewables Project Manager will lead a team of industry professionals in building world-class renewable energy projects throughout the Province of Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive management of project scope, scheduling, and cost management from initial handover through to invoicing and completion, ensuring safety standards are met at all times.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Manage and lead all aspects of project scope, schedule, and cost control;
  • Attend and participate in critical project meetings (i.e., job handover, critical path scheduling, job progress, etc.);
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly review project progress information, including critical path scheduling, work in progress reports, and analysis of all job costs;
  • Collaborate with the General Superintendent, Project Engineers, and on-site Superintendent to coordinate all on-site activities, ensuring all parties are equipped with the necessary information/documentation to execute specific scopes of work;
  • Provide on-going support to field personnel to help identify and remove obstacles that impact construction progress, resolving challenges with respective owners, and implementing profit improvement strategies;
  • Coordinate, price, and process change orders or technical problems in a timely manner, liaising with the necessary stakeholders (I.e., owners, suppliers, superintendents, etc.);
  • Review job cost reports, time sheets, purchase orders, delivery tickets, subcontractor requisitions, and invoices to ensure accuracy;
  • Visit project sites daily for troubleshooting and for the purposes of ensuring project quality;
  • Initiate and review regular project billings;
  • Ensure the safety of all on-site manpower, leading by example and ensuring adherence to corporate safety standards and programs;
  • Act as an approachable leader, mentoring emerging talent to increase leadership capacity, and coaching team members on areas for improvement;
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned Project Manager with demonstrated experience successfully delivering complex wind farm construction projects, and/or extensive experience in heavy civil/concrete projects. You are an experienced leader who can simultaneously balance both meeting key project deadlines and mentoring and coaching a team. Most importantly, you are comfortable being in a client-facing position and demonstrate an exceptionally high attention to detail.

Your qualifications will include:
  • 10 years’ experience as a Project Manager, ideally managing wind farm/renewable energy or complex concrete projects;
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant Engineering discipline would be considered a strong asset;
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with high attention to detail;
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Demonstrated experience as a leader, managing teams throughout the entire life-cycle of projects;
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office applications;
  • Familiarity with project management/estimating softwares.
