Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered up with Durham Regional Police Services to recruit a WISB Specialist to join their team in Whitby, Ontario. 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Member Wellness, Engagement and Support, the WSIB Specialist is responsible for the administration of occupational and non-occupational claims. The Specialist will administer, analyze and report on claims. The Specialist will represent the Service with outside agencies, such as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Canada Life (CL), Parklane and other external stakeholders as required. The Specialist will be responsible for the administration of all required employer documentation to support claim related appeals/tribunals.

The Specialist will be the subject matter expert for all administration of occupational and non-occupational claims, including the use of specialized systems, tracking data and success metrics, preparation of training documents and other special projects related to the Member Wellness, Engagement and Support Unit.

Your Responsibilities:

• Acts as subject matter expert for claim administration. Responsible for occupational and non- occupational claim administration. Record and report WSIB claims within required timeframes, maintaining all necessary electronic filing.
• Supports return to work processes for occupational injuries/illnesses by maintaining contact with WSIB as needed in consultation with the Nurse Case Coordinator and Supervisor, Member Wellness, Engagement and Support.
• Supports and serves as a resource to senior management and the Member Wellness, Engagement and Support Unit, with researching information and providing relevant updates with legislation changes and suggestions.
• Initiates and maintains contact with the WSIB to ensure the proper policy is being utilized and there are no delays for information needed to manage the claims to maintain integrity of the ability database.
• Analyzes absent related data for the Supervisor and Manager, Member Wellness, Engagement and Support, including bi-weekly absence reports, monthly summaries highlighting trends and drivers.
• Performs ongoing maintenance of the Parklane database to ensure overall data integrity and optimal utilization of the program. Perform auditing of the program and update data from HRIS system and WSIB.
• Conducts annual analysis of WSIB approved amounts for members and complete the required reports for the Region Payroll/Finance Team.
• Coordinates with Payroll to provide information they require for payroll purposes while maintaining privacy and confidentiality. Update bi-weekly the Who's Off Report for payroll.
• Produces reports and proposals related to claim management activities using a critical mindset in order to provide practical recommendations.
• Acts as subject matter expert for WSIB and support frontline supervisors on how to complete reports (Injury on Duties).
• Coordinates follow up on injuries/illnesses in concert with WSIB and third-party providers.
• Processes and tracks covered by advances.
• Monitors, tracks and trends all WSIB costs, process payments and liaise with Finance or WSIB on payment issues. Identify trends or patterns relating to claim costs and absences.
• Contributes in the training and facilitation of claim management to support the Unit, management, and members.
• Other duties, projects, as assigned (individual or group responsibilities).

Your Requirements:

• Completion of a 3-year college diploma in Human Resources or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum 2 years previous experience with WSIB administration; Knowledge of WSIB policy and legislation, balancing/reconciling WSIB claims, and providing analysis of comparator metrics.
• Computer competency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel).
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others including leading teams and processes, coaching, mentoring, and instructing other staff.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical and critical thinking skills to identify and resolve problems.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills with multiple levels and sources for listening and comprehension.
• Well-developed time management, prioritization, multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentially when dealing with all issues.
• Well-developed conflict resolution skills including the ability to interact with and respond to irate / emotional members of the service, and de-escalate situations.
• Proven ability to maintain composure with different dynamics of callers, members, and situations.
• Completion of a CHRP/CHRL will be considered an asset.

Hours
Monday to Friday / Day Shift (may occasionally require flexibility in hours or overtime)
