Meridia is excited to partner with the Town of Ajax in their search for a Right of Way Permits & Inspections Coordinator to join their team in Ajax, Ontario.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Technical Services and Maintenance Contracts, the Right of Way Permits and Inspections Coordinator is responsible primarily to provide a wide range of technical services relating to municipal permits and inspections and provide support in contract administration for a variety of roads maintenance contracts, as required.
Job Duties Include:
- Administer the Road Occupancy Permit (ROP) Process.
- Manage and administer Municipal Consent (MC) applications and issue MC approval documentation to Applicants.
- Provide guidance to Applicants regarding Road Occupancy application, road closures, construction safety and public notifications, and traffic control plans.
- Provide technical advice to MC Applicants.
- Review and provide comments on Engineering drawings for new installations and relocations of major utility company infrastructure.
- Conduct Right of Way inspections for Road Occupancy applications and permits, and Parkland Crossing applications. This includes: pre, progress, and final inspections including documentation, photographs, measurements, and record keeping.
- Inspect Right of Way deficiencies in accordance with the Town Standards, Municipal and Provincial legislations.
- Identify safety hazards within road allowance during inspections and report them to Town By-Law and appropriate stakeholders: contractors, utility owners, and agencies.
- Provide evidence, attend discovery hearings, follow-up on insurance claims and testify in court, as required.
- Provide excellent customer service, address inquiries from residents, Town staff and Council related to the Road Occupancy permits, investigate and resolve complaints.
- Provide support in contract administration for road maintenance contracts, as required.
- Perform and support other related duties and research as assigned that are in accordance with general job responsibilities or necessary departmental or corporate objectives.
- Will use specialized software applications (i.e., CityWorks, AMANDA, AutoCAD.)
- College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Civil Engineering, contract administration, roadway field inspections right of way inspection construction, maintenance and inspection, and/or combination of training, education and experience deemed equivalent.
- Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or willing to obtain.
- Certified Technician (C.Tech) designation may be accepted based on related training, education, and work experience in the Civil Engineering environment.
- Member of Ontario Association Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT) in good standing with eligibility to achieve a Certified Engineer Technologist (C.E.T) Designation.
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing.
- Strong working knowledge of the Minimum Maintenance Standards and Ontario Provincial Standards.
- Exceptional customer service skills, with the proven ability to resolve conflicts.
- Superior organization, time management, coordination, planning, and record keeping skills.
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize work with competing priorities with both internal and external customer service.
- Exceptional ability to focus attention to detail.
- Excellent computer skills relating to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills including report writing and presentations.
- Experience with GIS MAPS is an asset.
What is Offered to Staff
- Rate of Pay: $42.93 - $45.49 per hour
- Hours of Work: This is a unionized position that works 40 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
