Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Membership Engagement Manager is responsible for connecting the Members of Downtown Halifax Business Commission with the organization, primarily through personal contact, maintaining DHBC’s Member database, and helping maintain a Membership-based culture throughout the organization.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Membership Engagement Manager is responsible for connecting the Members of Downtown Halifax Business Commission with the organization, primarily through personal contact, maintaining DHBC’s Member database, and helping maintain a Membership-based culture throughout the organization.
Responsibilities will include:
- Identify new Members and deliver welcome packages.
- Lead DHBC’s welcome program through information sessions, one‐on‐one meetings, and networking events.
- Maintain a consistent schedule of Member visits and undertake relationship‐building.
- Promote and increase Member engagement in DHBC programs, including the Member web portal. Support and attend Member events to strengthen engagement.
- Identify, coordinate, and manage educational opportunities for Members.
- Create social media and website content in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Team.
- Source and/or create and coordinate Member‐focused events, workshops, and meetings.
- Lead and/or support the planning, promotion, and execution of events, including activation of sponsored and partner initiatives to maximize engagement and brand visibility.
- Represent DHBC at community events to enhance visibility.
- Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with the Membership Engagement budget.
- Manage and update the DHBC Member database.
- Maintain, update and/or create Member‐related content on the DHBC website.
- Oversee all aspects of the DHBC Welcome Centre, including seasonal programming, Member promotional materials, and events.
- Post‐secondary degree or equivalent experience.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
- Strong relationship skills. Experience in member relations and/or dealing with the public.
- Creativity and critical thinking with demonstrated ability to remain positive, solve problems, and seek clarification when required.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with balanced ability to receive direction and show initiative.
- Must be capable of performing moderate physical tasks relating to DHBC Welcome Centre management and DHBC events (e.g., lifting, hauling, ladder‐use).
- Must be capable of and willing to visit all Downtown businesses in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must be available and willing to work some evenings and weekends as required.
- Familiarity with using social media and content management systems (CMS) would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Existing knowledge of Downtown Halifax and its businesses is considered an asset.
