What You Will Do:
- Represent clients in hearings, trials, and appeals in your home jurisdiction as well as other judicial centres across the province.
- Provide legal opinions and manage complex, often unique legal matters that require creativity, strong research skills, and independent judgment.
- Deliver timely and effective legal services to ensure high-quality support for clients.
- Offer duty counsel services to individuals appearing in Provincial or Youth Court who are unrepresented.
- Contribute to the Legal Aid NL mission of improving access to justice and protecting basic legal rights.
Who You Are:
- You hold a Law Degree from a recognized institution and are a member in good standing (or eligible to become a member) with the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- You have a minimum of five years at the bar (applicants with less experience may also be considered).
- You bring experience in criminal and family law practice and are confident handling high-stakes and complex cases.
- You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic legal environment.
- You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- You uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality in your work.
- You are driven by service, teamwork, and a commitment to supporting vulnerable populations.
