Structural (Bridge) Engineer

Our client, a multi-discipline firm which offers engineering solutions, environmental services, and land use planning services in Peterborough and across Ontario is seeking a Structural (Bridge) Engineer. 
Reporting to the Manager Structural Bridge Engineering the role as a project engineer will be responsible for projects from inception to completion and provide project management and engineering services supporting various projects. You will engage in multiple engineering projects from inception to completion, including preliminary project planning, design, tender preparation, and construction management and post- construction evaluation.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or close to obtaining a license.
  • Three years of relevant experience related to the key responsibilities of the position.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing detailed structural designs for bridges, culverts, retaining walls
  • Strong practical knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), and the MTO Structural Rehabilitation Manual, and other relevant design policies, standards, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience working on highway, railway, or pedestrian bridge projects.
  • Exposure to projects involving rehabilitation and new bridge construction.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing drawings for compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with detail design and tender document preparation.
  • Understanding of project management practices and principles is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering bridge engineering projects with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) and/or Municipalities.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools including, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation).
  • Demonstrated experience performing structural calculations and analysis using structural analysis software (SAP2000, MIDAS Civil).
  • Strong knowledge of the appropriate use of structural systems, materials, and technologies.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Involvement in preliminary and detail design.
  • Identify and solve complex engineering design issues in order to satisfy clients’ needs while adhering to applicable policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Complete preliminary and detailed design calculations in order to support engineering recommendations.
  • Prepare project estimates, budget, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Undertake technical and feasibility studies including site investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, including staff, clients, agencies, and sub-consultants.
  • Preparation of technical specifications and contract documents.
  • Manage budgets and project resources, monitoring progress against budget and forecasted schedule.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout each project.
  • Review the work of junior design staff and complete quality control review for internal technical submissions.
  • Stamp and sign engineering drawings and reports under their responsibility (where applicable).
