Seaboard has a proven history of exceptional performance in the areas of safety, product handling and logistics and has grown by providing excellent service to clients in both the petroleum and chemical industries. In more recent years, Seaboard has added rail-truck and truck-to-rail transload services and options for bulk storage of dry and liquid products, growing their team to over 3500.

The Director of Finance is responsible for timely, accurate and meaningful financial reporting to stakeholders by developing and maintaining robust accounting processes and a strong system of internal controls.

On behalf of the Seaboard Transport Group, we are excited to lead the search for a Director of Finance to lead their team in Dartmouth.
The Director of Finance is responsible for timely, accurate and meaningful financial reporting to stakeholders by developing and maintaining robust accounting processes and a strong system of internal controls.
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide strategic leadership, guidance and mentorship to the Accounting and Financial Reporting functions, fostering an engaged and motivated team.
- Champion the use of technology to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in routine accounting, identifying and implementing automation opportunities to streamline financial workflows and improve overall effectiveness, enabling the team to focus on value added activities.
- Serve as a trusted business advisor to Operations by providing sound financial insights and strategic guidance.
- Define clear roles and responsibilities, set measurable goals, and provide timely and constructive feedback to support professional development.
- Develop individual training plans to ensure the team remains current with technical knowledge and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with business leaders to drive continuous improvement in cost efficiency for back-office functions and corporate overhead.
- Maintain and regularly update process documentation to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and financial reporting effectiveness.
- Continuously evaluate internal controls and implement enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy and compliance, ensuring a robust and continuously evolving system of financial governance.
- Develop and manage checklists for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Establish, maintain, and enforce corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Other related duties as required.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- CPA designation.
- 10+ years of progressive management experience in finance or accounting.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
- Extensive experience in preparing financial statements and notes in a multi-entity/consolidated reporting environment.
- Proven ability to redesign financial processes for efficiency while maintaining strong internal controls.
- Demonstrated success in leveraging cross-functional resources to achieve organizational goals.
- High sense of urgency with the ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
