Our client is a law firm based in Oshawa, ON, which specializes in family law. They offer personalized legal services to assist their clients in navigating the intricacies of family-related matters. From divorce and child custody/access to adoption and other family law matters, they customize solutions to meet the unique needs of each client. Their dedicated team is devoted to safeguarding clients' rights and advocating for their best interests. 

We are seeking an experienced Family Law Clerk (with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in family law) to join their team.

As their firm experiences’ growth, they are seeking a Law Clerk that can carry their own files with a large degree of independence, possess an entrepreneurial spirit and proven success in building positive client relationships.

Responsibilities:
  • Draft various legal documents, including correspondence, pleadings, orders, and agreements.  
  • Manage emails, correspondence, calendar entries, client meetings, court dates and client intake.
  • Communicate and liaise with clients.
  • Prepare straightforward correspondence.
  • Manage the collection, organization, and review of client documents and information necessary for the preparation of the client’s case.  
  • Prepare Financial Statements, Net Family Property Statements, and other financial materials.
  • Draft various legal documents, including correspondence, pleadings, orders, and agreements.  
  • Prepare lawyers for their attendance at court and mediation.
  • Managing the e-filing of court documents with the court and on CaseLine.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2+ years of family law clerk experience.
  • Diploma from a post-secondary institution in litigation family law clerk program.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Clerks Association in Ontario.
  • A firm understanding of the current Family Law Rules, forms, and court procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, drafting skills, outstanding work ethic.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong attention to detail and even under pressure, strong analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a small team, as well as independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), together with DivorceMate, and experience/willingness to learn our billing and timekeeping cloud-based software Clio.
