Role Description:

Reporting to the Section Manager, the Geotechnical Engineer will design projects with a multi-disciplinary team for dam removals, embankment dam refurbishments, fish passage facilities, recreation facilities, renewable energy projects, and stream restorations.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading and managing geotechnical investigations, from planning through execution and reporting, for a variety of infrastructure and civil projects.
  • Performing and overseeing geotechnical analysis and design of foundations (deep and shallow), embankments, slopes, and seismic considerations.
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams including structural, civil, and environmental engineers to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Conducting site inspections and provide engineering support during construction, including dam safety reviews, foundation and embankment inspections, and temporary excavation support.
  • Developing and implementing geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs, as well as laboratory and in-situ testing strategies.
  • Preparing clear and concise technical reports, calculations, and design documentation in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Actively participating in client meetings, maintaining strong client relationships, and contributing to business development efforts when needed.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (with a concentration in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering) or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET or Engineers Canada-accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • 7+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design of embankments, foundations (shallow and deep), and seismic/geotechnical structures.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • Experience with dam safety inspections and temporary construction support systems.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as Slope/W and Seep/W.
  • Experience in planning and executing geotechnical site investigations, laboratory testing, and instrumentation programs.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must possess authorization to work in Canada and be able to acquire authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing to travel periodically and possess a valid driver's license.
