Its traditional market area of Atlantic Canada has grown tremendously with almost 20% of its business taking place through export activity. The Shaw Group has eight major master plan communities underway or awaiting approval; 13 manufacturing facilities serving 12 different industries, mostly in the construction industry; and five retail stores. We are thrilled to be partnered with The Shaw Group looking to bring a Financial Controller, Manufacturing (Controller) to their team.
Reporting to the General Manager Manufacturing, and indirectly to the CFO, the Controller will be the key financial leader responsible for helping lead the financial planning and accounting for 3 divisions within Shaw’s Manufacturing operations. This will include supporting strategic planning, business plan development, long term growth strategies, financial analysis, and financial and accounting process improvement. This role will also be responsible for day-to-day accounting duties and utilizing the related financial information through analytics to support the broader strategies and decision-making to help grow the divisions being supported. You will be a senior member of each divisional leadership team and responsible for providing accurate and timely financial information, including developing and maintaining accounting policies, processes, internal controls, improved costing programs for the manufacturing operations, and helping to build enhanced financial reporting and analytics across each division. This is a unique opportunity to be that hands-on accountant and financial leader who also then gets to use the day-to-day financial information to help shape future growth and strategy of operations essential to the overall Shaw Group strategy and success, with the open-door ability to work directly with all levels of Senior and Executive management, and even the shareholders and Board of Directors. This role will get to be part of it all from bottom to top!

Responsibilities will include:
- Support the General Manager Manufacturing, and office of the CFO, to bring reliable financials, and then the deeper analysis, together to help form strategies and growth opportunities for 3 key divisions within Shaw Manufacturing.
- Support the CFO in the growth and evolution of all financial and accounting roles and functions within the Manufacturing operations.
- Ownership of all accounting processes and outputs linked to monthly and annual consolidated financial reporting, analysis, commentary, and reviews.
- Act as project owner of several accounting process changes, helping team with actions and change, as well as working on several projects directly as well.
- Ensure quality financial information and data analytics are available to the divisions for decision-making and that potential opportunities and risks are anticipated, understood and highlighted.
- Actively participate in operational improvement strategies in partnership with divisional and Executive leadership.
- Look for opportunities to automate manual accounting processes to enable improved data analytics and process efficiencies.
- Perform analytics on monthly and ad hoc financial information.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators for the division.
- Constantly evaluate special projects to enhance the performance of the divisions.
- CPA designation.
- Post-secondary education coupled with 10+ years of financial leadership experience in full-cycle accounting.
- Successful track record and expertise in helping to identify and drive value in an organization.
- Preferable experience in small/medium sized business with hands on all levels of financial and accounting responsibilities. Experience in the trees and the forest.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an inspiring style
- Detail oriented in addition to excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Is curious and just can’t help themselves analyzing and exploring what the numbers are saying and ideas in them
- Enjoys wrapping their arms around the full set of financial and accounting responsibilities with the ability to use and see them through to the highest level of strategic influence for growth of the business
- Ambitious and motivated with the ability to pivot when required.
