Director, Information Security and Enterprise Architecture
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Director of Information Security and Enterprise Architecture, is responsible for defining, implementing, and overseeing Algoma University's cybersecurity strategy, IT architecture, and related practices. The incumbent is responsible for collaborating with the CIO, the IT Team, and a broad range of staff and third-party vendors to effectively translate risk management strategies, tactics, and business objectives into specific security controls and architectural designs enabled by modern technologies and services.

Director, Information Security and Enterprise Architecture

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the creation and ongoing enhancement of a comprehensive institutional information security program that is aligned with industry best practices and relevant regulatory requirements, ensuring the university’s data and systems are adequately protected.
- Define, document, and implement IT architectural standards and strategic roadmaps that support the university’s operational needs and long-term strategic goals.
- Collaborate with project teams to provide expert SME guidance and ensure that security is integrated at every stage of system development and deployment.

- Lead the assessment of current architectures and identify areas for improvement.
- Lead the conducting of regular risk assessments and implement appropriate security controls to mitigate identified risks
- Develop and maintain incident response plans and lead response efforts in the event of a security breach or disruption.
- Stay abreast of emerging security threats and vulnerabilities and proactively implement counter measures.
- Design, build, and test robust security solutions to protect the university's systems, networks, and data.
- Evaluate and recommend security technologies and services to enhance the university's security posture.
- Collaborate with IT staff to implement and maintain security solutions.
Enterprise Architecture
- Lead the development and maintenance of an enterprise architecture framework that aligns with the university's strategic vision and goals.
- Guide the design and implementation of IT systems and infrastructure to ensure scalability, interoperability, and security.
- Collaborate with users to gather requirements and translate them into architectural designs.
Policy & Compliance
- Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
- Lead the ongoing security awareness training and education programs for faculty, staff, and students.
- Monitor and report on compliance with security policies and standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field and 10+ years of progressive experience in information security and/or enterprise architecture or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience in leading and managing security and architectural teams.
- In-depth knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), risk management methodologies, and security technologies.
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles and frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
- Professional security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA) preferred.
- Experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
- Experience with cloud security and architecture preferred.
