The Legal Assistant provides administrative and clerical support within a professional legal environment. The Legal Assistant is responsible for coordinating a variety of administrative procedures to ensure a high standard of quality and client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of correspondence and legal documentation including extensive editing and quality assurance
- Preparation of family law forms, briefs and other materials to be filed with the Court
- Schedule and manage client consultations, court dates, and appointments
- Coordinate external and internal communication
- Daily maintenance of client files and address client inquiries as required
- Daily preparation of dockets and client billings
- Maintenance of electronic and physical filing systems
- Assist with other projects and support other departments as required
- Office Administration – Legal or Law Clerk diploma from recognized post-secondary institute or suitable combination of education and experience
- Minimum two years of law office experience in family law
- In-depth knowledge of court forms and court filing systems
- Proficiency in composing, organizing, and presenting client financial disclosures, preliminary legal documents, and affidavits
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and DivorceMate
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional presentation
- Strong client service ethic
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize job tasks in order to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to respond effectively and professionally to changes in schedules and priorities
- Ability to ensure consistent attention to details and ability to problem solve
- Ability to work in a collegial but fast paced environment
- Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with sensitive information
- A positive, supportive, and professional attitude
