On their behalf, we are recruiting a Category Manager for the Home Meal Replacement (HMR) and Deli categories at Colemans.

As Category Manager – Home Meal Replacement (HMR) and Deli, you'll set the bar high, driving customer satisfaction through innovation and maximizing sales and profitability. Delivering the highest standards in fresh products, you'll collaborate closely with the marketing team and provide key operational support for Colemans retail sites, particularly those with HMR/Deli departments.

Reporting to the Director of Procurement, you'll oversee product development, vendor relationships, pricing, inventory management, and merchandising. Your goal? To execute category strategies that elevate the Colemans brand. If you have a passion for food and strong business acumen, this role is perfect for you. Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and execute HMR/Deli business plans, define goals, and drive market intelligence. Conduct research, monitor trends, and engage with vendors to ensure innovative products.
  • Innovation & Passion for Food: Champion a food-first approach, integrating passion and creativity in every product offering. Stay on top of food trends and innovations to bring new, exciting products to market.
  • Profitability & Sales: Implement profit plans, manage pricing, and monitor KPIs to meet sales and profit targets. Adjust strategies to optimize margins and revenue.
  • Operational Excellence: Support best practices, conduct site visits, and address operational issues. Ensure all performance metrics are met. Collaborate with Store/Department Managers to enhance product quality and implement improvements.
  • Marketing & Merchandising: Partner with marketing to create effective merchandising and promotional strategies. Oversee product placement, in-store features, and seasonal promotions ensuring product appeal and quality are optimized.
  • Vendor & Supplier Management: Manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure quality products at competitive prices.
  • People & Team Management: Lead and develop a high-performing team, including the Deli Field Supervisor and Company Chef. Participate in recruitment, performance management, and training within the HMR/Deli division.
  • Food Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to food safety standards, working with the Safety Officer to maintain a culture of food safety and environmental diligence across all operations.

Required Qualifications:
  • University or College Degree/Diploma in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Food Safety Designation, an asset.
  • Food Preparation Designation.
  • 5-7 years of retail management experience, including relevant experience in grocery retail.
  • Proven expertise in category management, pricing, and vendor negotiations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant systems and software.
