On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for an Assistant Manager, Financial Services to join their team of dedicated professionals in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Assistant Manager, Financial Services, plays a key role in supporting and guiding the Financial Services Officers. This includes ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with established policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for leading and supporting their team through performance management, coaching, and overseeing key processes such as reviewing, approving, and underwriting loans, investments, account openings, and estate products. Additionally, the Assistant Manager, Financial Services will collaborate with system partners, deliver training sessions, and conduct product knowledge workshops for Financial Services Officers. They will also assist the Branch Manager in achieving branch goals, including growth, profitability, business development, member retention, and overall satisfaction.

Leadership and Team Management:
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of direct reports to ensure optimal member service delivery, adhering to the Collective Agreement where applicable.
  • Develops a sales and service culture by training employees, monitoring performance objectives, planning and directing work, and providing weekly coaching to reinforce positive behaviors.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews and addresses performance-related issues, escalating to the Branch Manager as necessary.
  • Recommends personnel actions, including hiring, rewarding, promoting, reassigning, disciplining, or discharging staff, where appropriate.
Financial Services Support:
  • Provides guidance and support to Financial Services Officers (FSOs), facilitates team meetings, and generates reports.
  • Assists FSOs in managing delinquent accounts to recover principal, interest, and collateral.
  • Underwrites, reviews, and adjudicates loan applications, ensuring documentation is accurate and complete before final approval.
  • Mentors FSOs to identify new products and services that align with members' financial goals.
Member Experience and Operational Excellence:
  • Ensures a meaningful and exceptional member experience by addressing member and staff concerns, resolving escalated issues, and answering operational questions.
  • Guides and trains staff to consistently deliver high-quality member service.
  • Communicates policy updates, industry news, and market trends to the team.
Branch Operations:
  • Supervises the branch in the absence of the Branch Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Ensures adherence to security and risk management procedures.
  • Supports outreach initiatives to grow full-service memberships and strengthen community relationships.
Committee and Community Engagement:
  • Actively participates in internal committees, such as the Lending Program Committee.
  • Represents the Credit Union at community events and initiatives through volunteering and active engagement.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Completes additional duties and projects as assigned to support the branch and organizational goals.

As the ideal candidate, you possess a minimum of five years of lending experience, including a minimum of two years supervisory experience, along with a successfully completed degree or diploma in Business or Commerce. An equivalent combination of training and experience in credit may also be considered. Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach, delegate, and foster a team environment is required. With exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, you possess strong business acumen and are highly analytical by nature. The successful candidate must currently possess the Consumer and Residential Mortgage Lender Accreditation Designation or be willing to complete the designation within the next two years.

Employment Conditions: 
  • May be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to various locations of East Coast Credit Union.
  • Must be willing to take additional training or courses as required.
