Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a prominent law firm in Ottawa to recruit an experienced Director of Finance to join their team.
Your Responsibilities:
• Oversee all financial operations of the law firm, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
• Responsible for ensuring that all daily accounting activities are covered and met in a timely fashion, often with same day delivery requirements.
• Review ledgers on a monthly basis for all accounts and provide instructions for moves.
• Complete chargebacks to other firms every month.
• Understands the responsibilities of all team members and how all functions interact with each other.
• Communicate with lawyers and staff on accounting related matters on client files or general accounting processes in a timely manner.
• Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including but not limited to government, bank, Law Society and Meritas standards and best practices.
• Manage the finance team, currently of three employees, including conducting regular team meetings, mentorship, hiring, training, and performance management.
• Work closely with the firm management to develop and implement financial strategies that support the firm’s growth objectives and other strategic goals.
• Provide financial analysis and guidance to the firm management to support decision- making.
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of internal and external financial records, filings and reports as per their required schedules.
• Oversee annual review engagement with our client's external accounting firm for year end reporting for the primary business and its subsidiaries (currently five in total).
• Manage relationships with banks, external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers, acting as the point of contact with the bank for issues with wires or account issues.
• Manage legal accounting & docketing software for new user setups, updates, changes, problem resolution, etc. (currently Soluno) and recommend changes of software when and as appropriate.
• Stay up-to-date with changes in accounting standards and regulations.
Your Requirements:
• Accounting or Finance degree or diploma.
• Accounting professional designation or degree is an asset, preferably a CPA. ACAF designation will also be considered with commensurable experience. Master's in Finance or MBA an asset.
• Five to ten years of experience in finance and accounting.
• Minimum of five years experience managing a team
• Law firm or professional services experience managing trust accounts
• Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and financial forecasting.
• Strong Excel knowledge.
• Detail and results oriented.
• Leadership and business acumen.
• Expert level problem solver and analytical skills.
• Desire to learn and grow in the role.
• Experience managing cash flow.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
