We are pleased to partner with them in bringing a detailed-oriented Assistant Controller to join their team in this newly created role. Reporting to the Controller – Shaw Manufacturing, the Assistant Controller role emphasizes process improvement, efficiency optimization and ensuring a robust financial reporting structure. This role will be based between their Lantz and Milford offices be responsible for key duties in the company’s daily treasury management, fixed asset financial management, and insurance risk management. The Assistant Controller will collaborate with cross-functional teams across all manufacturing divisions and corporate head office to identify areas for improvement and implement innovative solutions that streamline accounting and financial operations, while completing month-end related tasks.


This role is designed to deliver value-added financial leadership to the company while paving the way for career advancement opportunities within The Shaw Group for a motivated finance professional. The journey begins with supporting current day-to-day processes, followed by embracing opportunities to enhance, streamline, and evolve these and other related financial functions


Key responsibilities and priorities in this role will be: 
 
  • Assisting in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Fixed asset and risk management
  • Bank reconciliations and other treasury functions
  • Royalty calculation and payments
  • Compilation of payroll entries 
  • Balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Database maintenance
  • HST requirements
  • Develop and implement streamlined processes to improve speed, accuracy, and compliance
  • Partner with other departments to improve cross-functional financial workflows
  • Leading and/or assisting in special projects related to financial strategy, forecasting and system upgrades
  • Both independently and with leadership, using information to look for opportunities for analysis, trends, insights and other learnings for process improvement


Basic Requirements: 
 
  • CPA designation
  • 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles
  • Proven experience in process improvement, systems optimization and workflow automation
  • Inquisitive and initiative focused to provide value-added improvements/information
  • Ability to identify areas of process improvement and implement changes that support the goals of the organization
  • Strong knowledge of accounting functions and related control processes
  • Advanced technical skills in the Microsoft Suite and accounting systems
  • Experience with accounting system, Syspro, would be considered an asset
  • Superior analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
