Associate Lawyer - Personal Injury

Our client, a dynamic, downtown Ottawa law firm, is looking to add a Personal Injury Associate to their Team. The firm prides themselves on having a team that is collaborative, collegial, creative, and who just simply love law. Responsibilities
  • Knowledge in the areas of Tort and Accident Benefits and the ability to deal with complex matters
  • The ability to deal with clients and opposing counsel in a professional manner
  • Prepare and draft motion records, Statement of Claim, pre-trial/mediation memos, pleadings, and affidavits of documents, Bills of Cost, Trial records, Claims, and other required documents
  • Prepare for examinations for discovery, case conferences, mediations, motions, appeals, pre-trial conferences, trials, and mediations/arbitrations and other hearings
  • Strong practice management for the litigation matter life cycle including settlements
  • Excellent communication skills.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario; 2019 Call or earlier preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Previous experience in plaintiff side personal injury litigation an asset
  • Very strong technical skills using:  Microsoft Office, Document Management software, legal accounting software, docketing
  • Ability to work closely, and in collaboration with lawyers, clerks, and staff
  • Able to work and reason independently on client files
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact directly and diplomatically with clients, counsel and other legal professionals outside of the firm
  • Strong time management skills (able to prioritize with minimal supervision)
  • Superior attention to detail
