Role Description
In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for overseeing and directing the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and modification of all plant equipment, machinery, furnishings, infrastructure, and facilities. As a key leader, you will work closely with internal and external partners to drive initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize facility resources. This position demands a strong focus on safety, environmental standards, and preventive maintenance to ensure consistent performance and regulatory compliance across all plant operations.

Your hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, combined with your problem-solving skills, has prepared you to lead a team and ensure equipment reliability. Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, assign, and supervise the work of industrial mechanics, millwrights, wastewater treatment technicians, electricians, and laborers/sweepers.
- Maintain a high standard of discipline within the maintenance team, ensuring all members are appropriately trained and certified.
- Build and maintain relationships with outside organizations, such as Efficiency Nova Scotia, to identify opportunities for reducing power consumption within the plant.
- Collaborate with the Executive Team to implement cost-saving and efficiency initiatives within the facility.
- Partner with the Health & Safety Officer to promptly address health, safety, and environmental issues and review completed monthly safety inspections.
- Supervise and manage annual inspection processes for fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and fire safety plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
- Develop and maintain a preventive maintenance (PM) program for all production machinery and capital equipment, integrated with the JDE ERP system.
- Establish procedures to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the PM system and track maintenance through ERP reporting.
- Oversee improvement projects, equipment risk assessments, and participate in the research and selection of new machinery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, recommend methods for improvement, and ensure timely breakdown repairs.
- Maintain a stock of necessary spare parts for machinery and equipment, adhering to budget constraints.
- Successfully manage plant expansion projects, which may include the installation of new product lines, ensuring adherence to budget and timelines.
- Oversee and supervise subcontracted services as per negotiated contracts, ensuring daily coordination and adherence to project standards.
- Regularly update, uphold, and maintain procedures related to maintenance and equipment to ensure ongoing operational efficiency and compliance.

Your qualifications include:
- Progressive experience in manufacturing and/or industrial maintenance, with strong knowledge of facilities equipment, services, and manufacturing processes.
- Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
- Must be available for on-call emergencies, including spills, fires, injuries, natural disasters, security, and equipment breakdowns impacting facility or production.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, Environmental policies, WHMIS, and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with effective communication, customer service, and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to operate effectively under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office software.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and Transport Canada security clearances, as well as meet U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) requirements.
- Commitment to Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment policies, ensuring safety for oneself and others.
- Prior experience in Continuous Improvement, Lean, and 6S initiatives is an asset.
