Since its establishment in 1965 as Algoma University College in Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma University has increasingly assumed a national leadership role in supporting the university sector’s response to Truth, Healing and Reconciliation. Lead, Talent Acquisition

Reporting to the Manager, Talent Acquisition and People & Culture, the Lead, Talent Acquisition will support leadership in the execution of full-cycle recruitment for all campus locations and operations and provide overall People & Culture support for the Brampton campus. The Lead, Talent Acquisition will ensure the day to day operations of the Talent Team are running smoothly, and will support the workflow distribution and assignment of recruitment activity for Staff and Admin IC level roles.

The incumbent will work closely with senior management officers to hire employees that will support a safe, positive, productive, and committed culture that attracts and retains high performers to achieve institutional results that align with Algoma’s commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, Decolonization, and Indigenization. This role requires good judgment, common sense, exceptional attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work under challenging time constraints and conditions. This position requires high sensitivity to confidential matters, and the incumbent must take appropriate measures to maintain integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction of the Manager, Talent Acquisition and People & Culture, carry out and ensure completion of all steps in the recruitment process of staff and administrative employees for approved new or vacant positions.
  • Lead recruitment for Staff and Admin IC, Manager, and designated executive roles at the Director and Associate Vice-President levels across all campuses while maintaining accountability and ownership of designated portfolios.
  • Manage workflow and assignment of work for the Talent Acquisition team, and mentor/coach team to support development.
  • Ensure the recruitment and selection process is linked closely with the institution’s Indigenization, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and decolonization goals.
  • Ensure the process is completed in compliance with respective Collective Agreements (where applicable), policies, and procedures.
  • Leverage strong relationship management and cross functional partnership skills to ensure a seamless and inclusive recruitment and selection process.
  • Execute the recruiting process end-to-end while effectively utilizing the process, systems and tools in place.
  • Build proactive pipelining strategies and share insights with hiring managers to support strategic decision-making and execution outside of current demand.
  • Lead the strategic sourcing for hard to fill and/or niche roles using sourcing tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, Github etc.
  • Execute all procedures concerning the Human Resources Skills and Development Canada (HRSDC) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada in obtaining Visa and Canadian working status for all positions as required - this includes LMIA processes.
  • Host and facilitate the onboarding and orientation of all new hires.
  • Facilitate the administration of all student hiring processes, both Academic and non-Academic.
  • Research and recommend process changes for improving talent acquisition and onboarding/offboarding activities.
  • Support ATS Implementation and ongoing maintenance and administration.
  • Build SOPs, guides, and process maps to support the education and training of hiring managers.
  • Support the formal creation of a Talent Analytics project which includes the tracking of KPIs and other data metrics to support the recruitment strategy.
  • Lead all offboarding efforts for the GTA (Brampton & Creekbank) campuses including but not limited to drafting notices to be issued, scheduling and supporting exit interview processes with the management office or other appropriate manager/director, and ensuring all files are closed out properly.
  • Support the execution of specific Brampton campus initiatives and events in conjunction with the applicable P&C team members.

 Lead, Talent Acquisition Qualifications

 Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the Talent Acquisition field, preferably in a unionized environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience required.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional or Certified Human Resource Leader
  • (CHRP/CHRL) designation is an asset.
  • Experience working with Applicant Tracking Systems (ADP Preferred) and other sourcing tools and recruitment platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience using a consultative and collaborative approach in building relationships.

Knowledge and Skills

  • This position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, adaptability, and an ability to work under challenging time constraints and varying conditions.
  • Excellent analytical skills to track metrics and interpret data for strategic recruiting campaigns.
  • In-depth knowledge of full-cycle recruiting, various recruitment tools, and employer branding techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Understanding of, and demonstrated ability to uphold, confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent the university professionally in interactions with internal stakeholders and/or external communities.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, styles, and abilities.
  • Strong understanding of technology for collaboration; strong computer skills (Google Workplace is preferred).
