Atlantic Corporation is seeking a Senior Manager, Tax based in Halifax. The Senior Manager, Tax will be integral to the Group’s tax compliance, preparation of tax returns, external tax audit management, accounting for income taxes and participating in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies.  
Reporting to the Director, Tax, and a key member of the corporate finance team, primary responsibilities will include the following:
  • Responsible to manage tax expense/liabilities through informed application of tax laws and regulations
  • Manage timely and accurate tax compliance, reporting, and filings for the Group, minimizing interest and penalties
  • Establish appropriate systems and processes for tax management across the Group
  • Act as the key point of contact and support for our operational Finance & Accounting teams as well as external tax advisors
  • Liaise with tax authorities and provide tax audit support for the Group including management/administration of external tax audits
  • Work with external auditors in relation to tax requirements associated with year-end financial statement audits; accelerate tax reporting close process
  • Prepare and review tax calculations (including current and future tax provisions), estimates and reports. Forecast and manage tax instalments 
  • Track, manage and reconcile tax assessments
  • Provide internal tax advisory services on merger and acquisition opportunities
  • Lead and coordinate ad-hoc tax analysis/business initiatives both corporately and within operational business units
  • Stay abreast of emerging tax laws/rulings and tax planning strategies
  • Manage tax account authorizations across the Group 

As the ideal candidate, you have developed a very strong level of experience and proven track record in most or all of the above noted responsibilities and can hit the ground running. You are a solid communicator and relationship builder, both with external and internal parties, while also possessing strong attention to detail and financial acumen to be successful in the role. Multiple priority management is something you understand and work well with. You are looking for a new challenge and interested in taking on an increasing level of responsibility as you continue to grow along with the Group’s growth.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • CPA designation with specific experience and/or designation in taxation
  • Minimum 5 years’ tax experience in public accounting firm; additional tax experience in industry considered a distinct asset
  • Technically strong with solid knowledge and experience in corporate income tax and GST/HST. Experience with the taxation of trusts, personal/estate income tax matters, corporate US tax would be considered an additional asset
  • Prior experience in tax strategy implementation, planning, support and project management would be advantageous
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills 
  • Possess good business acumen and highly adaptive nature
  • Mature, proactive, resourceful and hands-on with good initiative
  • Independent worker who is able to work well with minimal supervision
  • Experience with ASPE is highly desirable
  • Exposure to Tax Prep or similar tax software
