Meridia is excited to partner with the Region of Queens in their search for a Manager of Finance to join their team!
As the Manager of Finance, you will oversee revenue operations of the Municipality, support budget development, and develop fiscal strategies for the Municipality. You will collaborate with senior leadership, manage financial reporting, and ensure regulatory compliance to enhance the Municipality’s financial stability.
Responsibilities will include:
- Participate in the preparation, administration, and monitoring of the municipal budget, including operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor day to day revenue activities including taxes, grants, fees, and service charges.
- Prepare financial statements and create forecasting processes, using historical data and trends to project future financial performance.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure budget alignment with municipal priorities and strategic goals.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Provide guidance on fiscal policy and offer recommendations for improving efficiency and reducing costs.
- Monitor and analyze variances between actual results and budgeted figures, making adjustments as necessary.
- Stay current with local, provincial, and federal regulations affecting municipal finances and ensure compliance.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a finance team that supports a collaborative team environment.
- Coordinate and assist with special projects.
- Other finance related duties as required.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- 5+ years of financial management experience, ideally within a municipal or public sector setting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Experience with accounting software.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field (CPA preferred).
- Proven experience in municipal finance, budgeting, forecasting, and revenue management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and develop actionable insights.
- Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance in a public sector setting.
- Proficiency in financial management software and systems.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven leadership abilities and experience managing teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
