Meridia has partnered with Mission Services to recruit a Facilities Operator in Hamilton, ON. This will involve managing a small team of service operators and cleaning vendors as well as participating in the maintenance of building services ensuring proper operation of heating, cooling, mechanical, plumbing life-safety and electrical systems as well as overall building & exterior health & safety standards are met.

In this role the Facilities Operator will:

  • Provide oversight of all work activities undertaken by facilities staff ensuring all building standards and efficiencies are maintained including compliance with all government standards.
  • Have experience in building operations and maintenance, which could include overall facilities or experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life systems or mechanical systems (these could include but are not limited to, water treatment, boilers, heat pumps, rooftop units, are conditioners etc.)
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs as required related to belt and filter replacement, lamp replacement, common area housekeeping, washroom and plumbing repair
  • Provide coaching and constructive feedback related to performance
  • Assist with staff planning and hiring, and work with each staff member to develop personal development and training plans.
  • Create weekly/monthly schedules and work plans.
  • Take daily readings of all major equipment as required, including  but not limited  to, air supply temperatures, water temperatures and pressure readings, etc. and document and inspect for irregularities.
  • Conduct regular interior, exterior and roof inspections of properties for damage and perform or arrange repairsEnsure signage and lighting is in good working condition
  • Conduct regular exterior maintenance throughout the   propertyMonitor building security systems, fire alarm panel and sprinkler system regularly for proper operation and report any discrepancies
  • Inspect and test fire protection equipment and systems at recommended intervals for proper operation in order to meet legislative requirements and ensure tenant and customer safety
  • Ensure service contracts are enforced, service levels are achieved, and contracts are adequately supervised when on site
  • Carry out, or supervise execution of all preventative maintenance tasks as prescribed on all equipment and systems
  • Respond to program concerns through Maintenance Program in a timely manner and assist in solving problems as required
  • Respond and assist with seasonal building requirements, including snow clearing, seasonal decorating where applicable
  • Maintain shop and equipment inventory, request replacement inventory as required
  • Manage budgets and ensure project and operating purchases are managed within department budget
  • Support in capital planning for maintenance and repair plans
  • Manage documentation for department related to policies, training, purchase orders, and other administrative duties as required
  • Ensure all health, safety and security procedures are adhered to and areas of concern are reported to the appropriate parties in a timely manner in order to limit exposure to liability and loss
  • Maintain a healthy environment for staff, clients, and volunteers, partnering with H&S staff.
  • Complete any other duties as requested or required to ensure continuation of service to service users
  • Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality
  •  Uphold and model Mission Services’ mission, vision, values and Code of Conduct
  • Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report to management; follow Mission Services’ workplace health and safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications will include:

  • 3 years' experience working in a facility or building services role and knowledge of mechanical, electrical and HVAC.
  • Experience in asset management related to facilities
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize appropriately and manage competing priorities
  • The ability to work within a budget and to work with leadership to set that budget
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • A valid G driver’s license, with clean MTO 3-year abstract and proof of insurance
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule participating in the on-call rotation responding to emergency after hours needs. (Hours are primarily Monday-Friday 37.5 hours/week)
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Other requirements: Two- Step TB Skin Test, Covid-19 Vaccinations, Police Vulnerable Sector Check
