Meridia has partnered with one of the leading construction organizations, which operates multiple companies across diversified sectors including transportation, healthcare, information technology, and real estate. Their portfolio includes lifestyle apartments for seniors, retirement living, assisted living, memory care, and long-term care residences, as well as office buildings, storage facilities, renovations, and additions.  

They are looking for a Site Superintendent who is wanting to relocate to the beautiful city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. In this role they will manage 1-2 mid to high-rise sites with coordinators reporting and up to 200 contractors at a time. Their team is dynamic and includes in-house designers, engineers, site superintendents, project managers, coordinators, HR, accounting, and other support staff as well as fabrication shops.  

Key Responsibilities:  

The Site Superintendent is responsible for day-to-day management and oversight of the project site including, but not limited to, safety, quality, scheduling and trade coordination/problem solving.  

They will:  

  • Lead by example by understanding, monitoring, and holding those at or near the project site accountable for adhering to Design Build Solution’s Safety Program.  
  • Participate in the development and updating of the project schedule; create and manage short term look ahead schedules to ensure alignment of overall schedule and milestones.  
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager and other team members to resolve issues.  
  • Identify and advise of design deficiencies, schedule challenges and other project issues.  
  • Monitor and evaluate trade partner performance regarding safety, quality, and scope of work.  
  • Ensure sufficient manpower is provided to achieve safety, schedule, and quality goals.  
  • Work directly with vendors to order and receive materials to complete various scopes of work.  
  • Maintain paperwork including daily field reports, safety inspections, schedule updates, etc.  
  • Have experience in General Contracting as Site Supervisor in residential, commercial and/or institutional construction in mid to high-rise projects; Design Build experience is a plus.  
  • Have effective supervision, coordination and scheduling of construction activities to achieve project goals in relation to schedule, quality and budget.  
  • Be a strong leader and problem-solver, you are able to build trust with designers, trade partners and team members to achieve competitive excellence.  
  • Have the ability to build a successful team of trade partners and team members towards the successful delivery of a project.  
  • Be flexible and a team player.  
  • Have demonstrated competence in the areas of safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality and administration.  
  • Have sound knowledge of construction and building techniques and ability to read and interpret contract drawings and specifications.  
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and CSA approved safety boots.  

Key Qualifications:  

  • Construction Management Technology, Journeyman Certificate or related construction discipline is recommended  
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Site Superintendent on multi-unit builds  
  • Computer literacy including working skills in Microsoft Office and cloud-based software
