Job Title: Chief Estimator
Location: Waterford, New York

We’re proud to partner with Jersen Construction Group, a self-performing general contractor with a great reputation, as we search for a Chief Estimator to join their team in Waterford, New York.
In this role, you will play a critical role in the success of one of the Capital Region’s largest building contractors. You’ll work on public and private sector projects across the state of New York, which will include some of the most prominent building projects in the Capital Region. For the right candidate, this position could open the door to future leadership opportunities within the firm.
Responsibilities:
- Developing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs;
- Reviewing project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the scope of work and identify potential cost impacts;
- Conducting thorough quantity take-offs and cost analysis;
- Soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids;
- Collaborating with project managers and engineers to develop value engineering solutions and cost-saving strategies;
- Preparing and presenting estimate summaries and reports to senior management and clients;
- Maintaining and updating the estimating database with current cost information and historical data;
- Monitoring industry trends, market conditions, and pricing fluctuations to ensure competitive and accurate estimates;
- Participating in project handoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from pre-construction to construction phases.
Ideal Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field;
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in construction estimating, preferably with a self-performing general contractor;
- Proven track record of successfully estimating and winning construction projects;
- Ability to produce conceptual/schematic and hard-bid estimates;
- Experience producing Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) estimates would be a definite asset;
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards;
- Proficient in estimating software and tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel);
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor and develop a team;
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
