Strait Engineering Limited (Strait Engineering) is a growing consulting engineering firm operating in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia since 1983. Strait Engineering provides clients a wide range of services from conceptual planning to preliminary engineering and design through to project management, with focus on municipal infrastructure projects.

 

Meridia Recruitment is pleased to partner with Strait Engineering in recruiting a dynamic and proficient Senior Civil Engineer/Technologist to join their team.

 

Role Description

In this pivotal role, the Senior Civil Engineer/Technologist ensures seamless project delivery, fostering collaboration across all organizational tiers and stakeholders. Handling multiple projects concurrently, this individual thrives in a dynamic environment to meet diverse deliverables. Utilizing your design expertise, you will manage preliminary and final designs for an array of projects spanning road reconstruction, infrastructure renewal, storm water systems, culverts, watermains, sanitary and storm sewers, water treatment, and wastewater treatment. You'll take charge of preparing contract documents and ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets. You will be tasked with building positive relationships internally and externally, contributing to a collaborative work environment and mentoring junior staff.

 

Duties:

  • Provide professional and technical expertise, guidance and direction to project team members including junior engineers and technicians.
  • Commissioning a variety of civil engineering projects including production of contract documents, tender process, construction, and start-up of a project through to project completion.
  • Design, evaluate, and implement a variety of wastewater, water systems, and facilities.
  • Assist in preparing and review contract specification, detailed costs estimates, reports, request for proposals, and tender documents.
  • Receive, evaluate, and recommend acceptance or rejection of tenders.
  • Provide assistance and clarification of contract intent to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Provide contract oversight and administration including overseeing, directing, liaising and negotiating with contractors and/or consultants.
  • Prepare written technical engineering submissions to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ensure current standards are adhered to for design, construction, and operational matters.
  • Provide assistance in the career development of junior staff including technical direction, coaching and mentoring.
  • Upgrade knowledge and experience to evaluate and/or implement standards and practices in compliance with federal and provincial guidelines and legislation.

 

Your Qualifications

You bring experience as a Civil Engineer, or experienced Civil Engineering Technologists; consulting experience would be an asset. Experience with municipal/civil design, transportation, water, wastewater, and storm water design is considered an asset. You hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree or diploma in civil or structural engineering, and you have your Professional Engineer (P.Eng/CET) registration or are eligible to receive. You excel in team environments and demonstrate superior written and oral communication skills, evidenced through the creation of designs, reports, technical documents, and impactful client communications. You have proven your abilities in project management, blending technical expertise with effective leadership, ensuring the successful execution of diverse projects within specified parameters.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ Civil design or equivalent experience.
  • On path for registration or currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)/CET if applicable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering Tech or related field.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use various computer work processing, spreadsheet and project scheduling programs and databases.
  • Experience with software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D is considered an asset.
  • Experience with water modelling software is considered an asset.
  • Proven capabilities in writing reports and other technical documents.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
