Reporting directly to the Regional Executive Director, this executive leadership opportunity will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy, stewardship, and operational excellence of one of Nova Scotia's largest Regional Centres for Education.
Serving diverse communities across central and northern Nova Scotia, CCRCE is committed to providing high-quality educational experiences that support student success and organizational excellence. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Director, Financial Services will provide strategic financial leadership, oversee a broad finance function encompassing budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, procurement, financial planning, accounting services, and financial systems. You will lead a talented team of finance professionals while serving as a trusted advisor to the Regional Executive Director and senior leadership team.
The successful candidate will drive financial planning and business strategy, ensuring compliance with public-sector financial standards while supporting operational excellence and continuous improvement across the organization. You will also maintain strong relationships with the Department of Education, auditors, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:
- Lead the development and execution of regional financial strategies, annual budgets, and long-term business plans.
- Provide leadership and oversight for accounting, payroll, procurement, budgeting, and financial reporting functions.
- Establish and maintain effective financial controls, policies, and procedures that support accountability and compliance.
- Partner with senior leadership to ensure financial resources are aligned with organizational priorities and educational objectives.
- Oversee the implementation and optimization of financial systems and technologies.
- Ensure the delivery of timely, accurate, and meaningful financial reports to support decision-making.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and regulatory bodies, ensuring compliance with statutory and reporting requirements or facilitate external audits and regulatory reviews, ensuring timely provision of information and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
- Provide guidance on contracts, financial risk management, and matters requiring legal or regulatory consideration.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence throughout the organization.
As the ideal candidate, you are a fiduciary, strategic, collaborative, and results-oriented financial leader with a passion for public service and organizational excellence.
- A university degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- A Canadian CPA is a must.
- 5+ years of management experience coupled with 5+ years experience leading budget and financial management in a large organization.
- Demonstrated success overseeing complex budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions.
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial controls, governance, and risk management practices.
- Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience driving process improvements, system implementations, and organizational change initiatives.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders, government stakeholders, auditors, and external partners.
