We are excited to partner with Nova Leap Health Corp. in their search for an Assistant Controller to join their growing and dynamic team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Nova Leap is an acquisitive home health care services company operating in one of the fastest-growing industries in the U.S. & Canada. The Company performs a vital role within the continuum of care with an individual and family centered focus, particularly those requiring dementia care. Nova Leap operates across 8 U.S. states and in Nova Scotia, and continues to expand through strategic acquisitions.
This senior accounting role is responsible for corporate-level accounting, legal entity consolidation, external financial reporting and assisting with the monthly accounting function. The position serves as the primary preparer of consolidated financial information and technical accounting analysis, operating under the review and direction of the Corporate Controller. The role ensures the integrity of corporate accounting across Canada and the United States and supports audit readiness, regulatory reporting, and complex accounting matters.
As the organization grows, the Assistant Controller acts as the central hub for consolidation, technical accounting, financial reporting, and corporate-level compliance activities while assisting the Corporate Controller in leading and developing the accounting team.

Key responsibilities will include:
Corporate Accoutning and Consolidation
- Record and reconcile corporate-level transactions including debt, equity, and other complex or unusual items
- Review corporate accounting prepared by accountants
- Lead monthly consolidation of all legal entities across Canada and the United States
- Maintain consolidation workbooks and elimination entries
- Review intercompany accounting processes including intercompany loans, funding, management fees, and corporate allocations
- Investigate and resolve intercompany differences with accountants
External Financial Reporting
- Prepare consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS
- Draft quarterly and annual MD&A and other external disclosures
- Maintain financial statement disclosure checklists and supporting schedules
- Prepare supporting documentation for audit working papers, board reporting, and regulatory filings
- Support preparation of press release financial summaries
Technical Accounting
- Research and document accounting positions on complex transactions
- Prepare technical accounting memos and supporting analysis under Controller direction
- Assist with accounting assessments related to acquisitions, intangible assets, goodwill, impairment testing, revenue recognition matters, and lease accounting.
- Maintain documentation supporting key accounting judgments and estimates
Income Tax Accounting & Compliance Support
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation required for Canadian and U.S. corporate income tax filings
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on tax return preparation and related information requests
- Assist with analysis and documentation of tax positions and tax-related accounting matters
Audit & Compliance
- Act as primary preparer of audit support schedules and working papers
- Coordinate audit requests and documentation collection across the accounting team
- Assist with responses to auditor inquiries and information requests
- Maintain organized audit files and ensure readiness for annual and interim reviews
- Support preparation of lender reporting and covenant calculations
Operations Accounting Oversight
- Review selected subsidiary accounting
- Support entity accountants with technical accounting questions
- Assist with unusual transactions or accounting issues at the entity level
- Ensure consistency in accounting policies and application across entities
- Review selected month-end financial statements, workbooks and reconciliations prepared by accountants
- Provide coaching and guidance to accountants to promote consistent accounting practices and continuous improvement.
Financial Reporting Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve consolidation and reporting efficiency
- Develop standardized reporting templates and workpapers
- Improve documentation and repeatability of reporting processes
- Assist with implementation of reporting
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including exposure to consolidation and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and experience with external financial reporting (public company experience is an asset).
- Experience working in a multi-entity or multi-jurisdictional environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks Enterprise or similar) is an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams.
