Over the last five years, The Wilson Group has entered a significant new chapter of growth. To support this momentum, we are seeking an experienced Controller to join the team in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will lead the day-to-day accounting operations across a multi-entity organization while providing the financial leadership, insight, and structure needed to support continued growth.
This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being close to the business. Someone equally comfortable diving into the details and stepping back to understand the bigger picture. Working closely with the CFO and operational leaders, the Controller will play a key role in strengthening financial processes, enhancing reporting capabilities, and translating financial information into meaningful insights that support sound business decisions.

What you’ll do:
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities and locations
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning processes
- Develop and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
- Analyze operational and financial results, identifying trends, opportunities, and areas requiring attention
- Translate financial information into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for senior leadership and operational teams
- Oversee inventory accounting and reporting across the organization
- Coordinate year-end activities and act as a primary liaison with external accountants and advisors
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve systems, reporting, processes, and overall operational efficiency
- Partner closely with the CFO and business leaders to support strategic initiatives and drive business performance
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Seven or more years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience
- A CPA designation or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting expertise
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting functions and strengthening financial processes
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to turn financial information into meaningful business insight
- Strong systems aptitude, including advanced Excel proficiency
- The ability to communicate effectively with operational leaders, executive stakeholders, and team members across the organization
- A hands-on approach and willingness to get into the details while maintaining a broader understanding of the business
- Experience within retail, distribution, inventory-intensive, multi-location, or similarly complex operating environments would be considered an asset
