As MUNN continues to grow its commercial presence across Atlantic Canada, they are seeking a Commercial Business Development Manager to lead commercial growth initiatives throughout Nova Scotia.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Leadership Team, the Commercial Business Development Manager is responsible for developing new commercial business opportunities, building strategic relationships, and expanding MUNN Insurance's presence throughout Nova Scotia.

This is a highly visible, client-facing role focused on generating new business and cultivating long-term relationships within the business community. The successful candidate will identify opportunities, develop trusted advisor relationships, and work closely with internal commercial insurance professionals to deliver customized solutions that support client success.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Business Development & Market Growth
  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan focused on commercial growth throughout Nova Scotia.
  • Identify and pursue new commercial insurance opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, and community engagement.
  • Build strong relationships with business owners, executives, and key decision-makers.
  • Develop referral partnerships and centres of influence to support long-term growth.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of qualified opportunities and manage prospects through the sales process.
  • Consistently achieve business development and revenue objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for account expansion and cross-selling.

Client Relationship Management\
  • Conduct consultative discussions to understand clients' businesses, operations, risks, and goals.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with prospective and existing clients.
  • Analyze insurance programs and identify opportunities to improve coverage and risk management strategies.
  • Present tailored insurance solutions that align with client needs and objectives.
  • Support a seamless transition from prospect to client while maintaining key relationships.

Market Presence & Community Engagement
  • Establish a strong presence within Nova Scotia's business community.
  • Participate in professional associations, industry events, and networking opportunities.
  • Enhance MUNN Insurance's visibility and reputation throughout the province.
  • Build relationships with industry partners, community organizations, and referral sources.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities and industry trends.

Collaboration & Commercial Strategy
  • Collaborate closely with Commercial Account Managers and insurer partners to develop competitive client solutions.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of proposals for new opportunities.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of commercial insurance products, markets, and underwriting considerations.
  • Accurately track business development activities, pipeline performance, and client interactions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing growth and success of the commercial insurance division.

Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate brings a combination of business development expertise, relationship-building skills, and commercial acumen.

Experience & Education:
 
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, commercial sales, commercial insurance, financial services, or a related client-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated success generating new business opportunities and building long-term client relationships.
  • Experience working within a relationship-based sales environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Commerce, Finance, Insurance, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Insurance industry experience or licensing is considered an asset; licensing support may be available for the right candidate.
