Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with the Government of New Brunswick's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) in the search for a Transportation Maintenance Superintendent (Bridges & Buildings) to join the Saint John District team. This leadership opportunity is responsible for overseeing bridge and building maintenance operations throughout district 4, ensuring critical infrastructure is maintained safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting the movement of people, goods, and services across New Brunswick. Responsible for maintaining more than 18,000 kilometres of provincial highways, as well as managing the planning, design, and construction of hospitals, schools, and other government facilities, DTI delivers infrastructure that supports communities, public services, and economic growth throughout the province.
Role Description
As a member of the District Management team, the Transportation Maintenance Superintendent (Bridges & Buildings) provides technical, operational, and administrative leadership for bridge and building maintenance activities within the Saint John District. Reporting to the Assistant District Engineer, you will oversee bridge supervisors and field crews, coordinate maintenance and rehabilitation work, support capital projects, and ensure infrastructure programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental standards. This role combines people leadership, operational planning, infrastructure inspection, and project coordination in a dynamic field-focused environment.

Your responsibilities will include:
• Providing leadership and oversight for bridge and building maintenance operations across the Saint John District;
• Supervising, coaching, and supporting bridge supervisors and maintenance crews;
• Planning, organizing, and scheduling maintenance activities and resources across multiple work crews;
• Conducting infrastructure inspections and contributing to long-term maintenance and capital planning initiatives;
• Monitoring the quality and quantity of materials used in maintenance and construction activities;
• Interpreting testing results and supporting the preparation and review of project cost estimates;
• Assisting with field layouts and coordinating bridge maintenance and capital improvement projects;
• Promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence throughout the district.
Your Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you bring a combination of infrastructure maintenance expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering safe and reliable public infrastructure. You are comfortable leading field operations, managing priorities across multiple projects, and working collaboratively with supervisors, crews, and district leadership.
Your qualifications include:
• Graduation from high school supplemented by completion of a recognized engineering technology program;
• Minimum of three years of supervisory experience;
• Bridge-related or infrastructure-related construction experience is considered an asset;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
• Valid New Brunswick driver's licence;
• Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent communication and team leadership abilities;
• Written and spoken competence in English.
