Role Description:
The System Safety Engineer serves as a key member of GeoSpectrum's Integrated Program Teams, acting as the focal point for system safety across complex development programs. This role leads and facilitates system safety activities to ensure risks are systematically identified, assessed, mitigated, and managed throughout the program lifecycle, from concept and design through testing, trials, and final delivery.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts, the System Safety Engineer leads System Safety Working Groups (SSWG), facilitates hazard analysis activities, and develops safety documentation in support of internal processes and customer requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping safety cases, supporting safe system design, and driving the continuous improvement of GeoSpectrum's system safety practices.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Act as Program Safety Manager within Integrated Program Teams, leading safety activities across the full program lifecycle.
- Facilitate System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) and collaborate with technical subject matter experts to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards.
- Lead and support Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHA), Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Sub-System Hazard Analyses (SSHA), and other safety assessments.
- Develop and maintain safety documentation in accordance with internal processes, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
- Partner with Systems Engineers and product teams to define safety requirements and support verification and validation activities.
- Track hazards, mitigations, residual risks, and safety requirement verification activities throughout program execution.
- Support testing, field trials, and operational activities through hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety planning.
- Develop safety cases and supporting documentation for unique testing and operational scenarios.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of GeoSpectrum's system safety processes, procedures, tools, and methodologies.
- Champion safety best practices and support the evolution of the organization's approach to System Safety Engineering.
Your Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and analytical engineering professional with experience identifying, assessing, and mitigating hazards within complex systems, processes, or operational environments. You are comfortable facilitating technical discussions, working with subject matter experts, and guiding cross-functional teams through safety and risk assessments.
Key qualifications include:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Chemical, or a related discipline) or equivalent career experience.
- Experience conducting hazard analyses, risk assessments, or safety engineering activities within complex technical environments.
- Experience working with complex integrated systems across electrical, mechanical, software, and controls domains.
- Strong understanding of system safety principles, hazard analysis methodologies, and safety management frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate technical discussions and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical environments.
Assets include:
- Experience with MIL-STD-882 and related system safety processes.
- Experience leading System Safety Working Groups (SSWG), safety reviews, or hazard analysis sessions.
- Experience as a Program Safety Manager or in a similar system safety role.
- Experience developing safety cases and supporting test or trial activities.
- Experience within defence, aerospace, marine, industrial, energy, or other highly regulated environments.
- Background in process safety, reliability engineering, or related disciplines.
