Role Description

As Construction Design Lead, you will lead the coordination of the design process from initial project concept through construction and project closeout. Working closely with clients, consultants, project team, field team, and the internal design team, you will help transform conceptual ideas into functional facility layouts and ensure designs are coordinated, constructible, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget.

This is a hands-on role that combines technical design expertise with design coordination. While much of your time will be spent managing consultants, facilitating design meetings, reviewing drawings, and keeping projects moving forward, you will also be expected to contribute technically through drawing review, layout development, and drafting support. Success in this role requires strong architectural knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders throughout the design process.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinate the design process from project initiation through construction and project closeout.
  • Work with clients to understand operational requirements and develop functional building layouts and design concepts.
  • Lead the coordination of architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and process design disciplines.
  • Manage external consultants and facilitate design coordination meetings throughout the project.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation for completeness, coordination, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure designs remain aligned with project scope, budget, schedule, and operational objectives.
  • Identify design conflicts, missing information, and coordination issues and work with project stakeholders to resolve them.
  • Track design decisions, revisions, approvals, and outstanding items throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work closely with project team and site teams to support the successful transition from design into construction.
  • Review RFIs, shop drawings, samples, and other construction submittals for design coordination purposes.
  • Participate in site visits to review existing conditions, construction progress, and design-related issues.
  • Maintain organized design records, drawing registers, meeting minutes, revision logs, and project documentation.
  • Support permit submissions, regulatory approvals, and project closeout activities.
  • Promote practical and constructible design solutions that support project quality, safety, schedule, and budget objectives.

Your Qualifications
The ideal candidate is an experienced Architectural Technologist or design professional who enjoys bringing people, information, and projects together. You are confident working with multiple stakeholders, comfortable asking questions and challenging assumptions, and thrive in environments where communication, coordination, and problem-solving are critical to success.

Your qualifications include:
  • A degree or diploma in Architectural Technology, Structural Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in architectural design, drafting, design coordination, or construction project delivery.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to prepare and modify drawings when required.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable building codes and construction standards.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Experience coordinating external consultants and design disciplines throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of building construction methods, systems, and design coordination processes.
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain project momentum in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites is required.

Assets include:
  • Experience working on industrial, food processing, cold storage, manufacturing, distribution, or other specialized construction projects.
