We are pleased to be partnering with MetOcean in the recruitment of an Accounting Technician to join their organization in their Dartmouth, NS office. 

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Technician will support the accounting team in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the timely preparation of internal financial statements. This role plays a key part in month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations, reporting activities, and ongoing financial operations, helping provide management with reliable information for effective decision-making.

Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and review general ledger account entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and related management reports, including consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Compile monthly working paper files
  • Assist with external reviews by providing requested documentation and supporting explanations
  • Provide backup support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
  • Prepare operating expense analyses and provide insight to management
  • Support and maintain adherence to third-party reporting requirements
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness within routine accounting processes
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting, including the enhancement of existing reports
  • Other duties, as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Commerce, Accounting, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including financial reporting and month-end close responsibilities
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Office 365 suite of applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or other ERP systems considered an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI considered an asset
  • CPA student or newly designated CPA considered an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate and implement effective solutions
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to interpret and integrate information from multiple sources of varying complexity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
