The Opportunity

Meridia Recruitment is proud to partner with Carol Lake Metal Works in their search for a Senior Estimator & Design Technologist to join their Fabrication & Material Processing team in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Reporting to the Drafting Coordinator, this position plays a critical role in supporting fabrication and project execution through accurate estimating, detailed design work, and technical coordination.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced estimator and design professional who enjoys working on diverse industrial and fabrication projects from concept through production. Combining estimating, drafting, and field data collection, the successful candidate will help ensure projects are accurately scoped, costed, and aligned with operational capabilities while supporting production with precise technical drawings.

What You Will Do:

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, labour, and overhead costs.
• Review engineered drawings, blueprints, and project documentation to determine project scope, requirements, and specifications.
• Collaborate with project managers, fabrication, and operations teams throughout the estimating and planning process.
• Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and support accurate project costing.
• Maintain and update estimating databases and cost models.
• Develop layouts, assemblies, welding drawings, and engineering specifications using SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
• Utilize 3D scanning technology and conduct field work to gather project information and support accurate modelling and quoting.
• Provide ongoing drafting and technical support to fabrication and production teams.

What You Bring:

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of estimating and/or drafting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or fabrication environment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Knowledge of steel fabrication processes.
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Valid driver's licence.
