Responsibilities:
- Design and implement computer vision and deep learning algorithms for underwater applications, including detection, tracking, segmentation, pose estimation, and 3D reconstruction.
- Develop robust image enhancement and domain adaptation approaches for challenging underwater conditions such as turbidity, low-light, and colour distortion.
- Build and maintain scalable training and evaluation pipelines, including dataset curation, labelling workflows, augmentation strategies, and experiment tracking.
- Define and monitor algorithm KPIs (accuracy, precision/recall, tracking stability, 3D error, latency), running ablation studies to drive continuous improvement.
- Optimize models for real-time edge deployment on Jetson/GPU hardware using quantization, pruning, TensorRT, and pipeline profiling.
- Integrate models into production systems in collaboration with software and hardware teams, including APIs, streaming pipelines, versioning, and rollback strategies.
- Partner with marine biology and ocean engineering stakeholders to ensure algorithm outputs support fish well-being, operational excellence, and scientific validity.
- Travel domestically and internationally for R&D site work, system validation, and customer engagements.
Position Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in computer vision and deep learning, with a strong foundation in object detection, instance/semantic segmentation, and multi-object tracking.
- Proven experience building training and evaluation pipelines, including dataset management, augmentation, metrics design, and experiment reproducibility.
- Proficiency in Python for ML development and C++ for production integration.
- Hands-on experience with PyTorch and modern ML frameworks.
- Experience with deployment and optimization tools including TensorRT, ONNX, mixed precision, quantization, and performance profiling.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean architecture, modular code, testing, and CI/CD basics.
- Familiarity with Git-based workflows and code review culture.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convert ambiguous problems into actionable experiments and deliverables.
Assets:
- Experience with underwater vision challenges (turbidity, motion blur, colour shift) and domain adaptation or robustness methods.
- Familiarity with active learning, human-in-the-loop labelling, uncertainty estimation, or drift detection.
- Experience with MLOps tooling such as Weights & Biases, MLflow, DVC, or model registries.
- Exposure to distributed training, multi-GPU, or cloud training workflows.
