The Accounting Manager is a key member of the finance team whose performance will be measured through their ability to oversee core accounting functions and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This individual will play an important role in maintaining strong internal controls, supporting business decisions through financial insight, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.

We are excited to partner with Stanfield’s in the search for an Accounting Manager to join their team in Truro, NS.
The Accounting Manager is a key member of the finance team whose performance will be measured through their ability to oversee core accounting functions and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting. This individual will play an important role in maintaining strong internal controls, supporting business decisions through financial insight, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.
Responsibilities will include:
- Accounts Payable Management
- Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, approvals, and payments
- Ensure timely and accurate payment to vendors while optimizing cash flow
- Review and enforce internal controls over AP processes
- Resolve discrepancies and vendor issues efficiently
- Monitor aging reports and manage outstanding liabilities
Banking & Cash Management
- Manage daily banking activities and maintain relationships with financial institutions
- Perform and review bank reconciliations on a regular basis
- Monitor cash flow, forecast liquidity requirements, and optimize cash positioning
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of cash transactions and records
- Oversee electronic payments, wire transfers, and other treasury functions
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes
- Prepare and review journal entries to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Ensure all accounts are reconciled and supported by appropriate documentation
- Maintain closing schedules and ensure deadlines are met
- Identify and implement process improvements to streamline closing activities
Working Papers & Documentation
- Prepare detailed working papers supporting financial results and account balances
- Maintain organized and audit-ready documentation
- Support internal and external audits by providing required schedules and analysis
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements
Financial Analysis
- Identify trends, variances, and areas of concern; provide actionable insights
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes with financial data and analysis
- Assist senior leadership in understanding financial performance
- Ensure financial statements comply with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP)
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA designation or progress toward certification is preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Experience working with ERP/accounting systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
