Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Student Services, the Manager, Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities provides strategic leadership for the university's student conduct, behavioural intervention, and violence risk assessment functions, fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment. The role oversees conduct investigations, policy development, case management practices, and behavioural intervention processes, ensuring fair, consistent, and student-centred outcomes. As a key member of the Behavioural Intervention Team (BIT), the Manager coordinates responses to complex student concerns, collaborates with campus partners to mitigate risk and support student wellbeing, and leads education, prevention, and training initiatives that promote community accountability, safety, and student success.

This position offers an annual salary ranging from $85,000, a midpoint of $90,000, and a maximum of $95,000. Established hires typically start near the midpoint, while the upper range is reserved for those with deep expertise and sustained contributions. - Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and performance management for a team responsible for student conduct and behavioural intervention services.
- Oversee the consistent application of student conduct policies, procedures, and support practices across the institution.
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of student conduct, behavioural intervention, and violence risk assessment policies and procedures.
- Manage the investigation and resolution of student conduct concerns, ensuring fair, equitable, and student-centred processes.
- Serve as a key member of the Behavioural Intervention Team (BIT), coordinating responses to complex student situations involving behavioural concerns or potential safety risks.
- Conduct and oversee violence risk assessments and collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement intervention, safety, and behavioural support plans.
- Respond to urgent and crisis situations, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to mitigate risk and support student wellbeing.
- Design and deliver training, workshops, and awareness initiatives focused on conduct, behavioural expectations, violence prevention, conflict resolution, and community safety.
- Build strong partnerships across the institution, providing consultation and guidance to faculty, staff, student leaders, counselling services, campus security, accessibility services, and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee case management, record-keeping, data analysis, and reporting functions, using trends and insights to inform policy development, risk mitigation strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to campus-wide committees and initiatives that promote student wellbeing, community accountability, safety, and a culture of respect and inclusion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Law, Social Work, or related field strongly preferred.
- Minimum 4 to 6 years of experience in student conduct, behavioral intervention, or risk assessment in post-secondary education, including experience with violence risk assessment or BIT teams.
- Experience managing complex, sensitive, or high-risk student cases, including potential threats to safety, sexual/gender-based violence, harassment, etc.
- Expertise in student conduct systems, restorative justice, trauma-informed care, equity, human rights, accessibility, and Canadian privacy legislation.
- Proficiency in violence risk assessment frameworks, threat assessment protocols, etc.
- Excellent conflict resolution, mediation, de-escalation, and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, case management experience, and ability to prioritize multiple concurrent cases.
- Data management, reporting, and trend analysis skills for risk assessment and institutional planning.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism, and culturally responsive approaches.
- Certification or training in threat assessment, restorative justice, mediation, etc. would be considered an asset.
- Experience developing preventive programming or workshops on violence prevention, conflict management, or behavioral expectations would be considered an asset.
