Meridia Recruitment is proud to Partner with O’Keefe & Sullivan in search of a Legal Assistant to be based in St. John’s, NL. The Legal Assistant will provide support to firm lawyers throughout the Atlantic Region in both, corporate and commercial law matters.
What You Will Do:
- Working as part of a collaborative and dynamic team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Drafting, reviewing, and revising a wide range of legal documents and correspondence while maintaining accuracy, quality, and confidentiality.
- Assisting with the preparation and filing of court documents in accordance with established procedures and deadlines.
- Managing and maintaining a comprehensive calendar of key dates, including court deadlines, and monitoring diary systems to ensure timely follow-up.
- Maintaining and organizing client corporate records, including record books, and supporting the management of key client accounts.
- Supporting trial preparation activities, including organizing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and assisting in the preparation of legal briefs.
- Conducting due diligence reviews and supporting compliance-related initiatives.
- Liaising professionally with clients, court officials, and other legal professionals as required.
- The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of education, experience, and professional competencies, including:
- Successful completion of an Office Administration program with a specialization in Legal Assistant or Paralegal studies.
- 3–5 years of experience working as a Paralegal; experience in Corporate/Commercial and/or Litigation is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to thrive both independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment.
- A solid understanding of the importance of client service and relationship management.
