Meridia is happy to partner with K&R in their search for a Maintenance Technician to join their team in Port Saxon, conveniently located within a 50-minute drive from Yarmouth and 25-minutes from Shelburne, making it accessible for candidates across Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore.


Role Description
The Maintenance Technician will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant’s production equipment and facilities. This position places a strong emphasis on preventative maintenance and continuous improvement. In this hands-on role, you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machinery, supporting the success of K&R’s processing operations. This is a day-shift role, with occasional on-call support. It’s an excellent opportunity for professionals currently working extended or overnight shifts who are seeking greater work-life balance.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Adhere to all workplace and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment throughout the shift.
  • Accurately complete maintenance records and repair documentation.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace defective machinery parts.
  • Identify and resolve equipment irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Operate and maintain pumps, compressors, fans, blowers, hydraulic systems, and stationary engines.
  • Maintain organized inventories of tools, parts, and materials.
  • Report and document safety concerns and equipment deficiencies.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Complete standardized inspections and checklists for equipment and infrastructure.


Your Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with mechanical or electrical aptitude, and capable of troubleshooting and maintaining industrial equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You have a proactive, problem-solving mindset and are able to manage your time effectively and prioritize work to align with operational goals. A background in manufacturing maintenance is preferred, along with a willingness to learn and grow within the organization.

Your qualifications include:
  • Diploma or certificate in Millwright, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience in maintenance will be considered.
  • Apprentices in a relevant trade are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working within a commercial, industrial, or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code specifications.
  • Experience with designing and installing PVC, EMT, and galvanized conduit for plant systems.
  • Ability to repair, replace, and upgrade distribution equipment and electrical controls.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with computer-based maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to be on-call one week per month.
